Starston is an attractive rural village, with a population of around 350 and is part of a Benefice of 7 churches. St. Margaret’s is a mediaeval church standing in an attractive well-maintained churchyard and has a peal of six bells which are rung at most services.
St. Margaret’s prides itself in the use of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer for its major Sunday services where Sung Matins is particularly popular. Perhaps considering itself ‘low church’ an ‘open table’ policy is practiced whereby worshippers of other Christian denominations are welcome to partake of the sacraments.
The PCC fully supports the Benefice and is working towards its development in the future. We have regularly paid the Parish Share in the past but due to dwindling finances this is becoming increasingly difficult. We are proactive in all aspects of worship and combine stewardship with social and fund raising activities. The Lay Ministry team supports worship and pastoral care in the parish.
Holy Communion is held on the first and third Sunday in the month and Matins on the second Sunday. The Great and Small family service is held on the fourth Sunday.
There are Special Services held throughout the year, apart from the traditional religious festivals these are:
- Mothering Sunday, the fourth Sunday in Lent.
- Battle of Britain Service – second Sunday in September
- Harvest Festival, usually in October. (5.00 pm)
- Remembrance Service – second Sunday in November (set nationally).
- Service of Carols and Nine Lessons – usually second or third Sunday in December (6.00 pm)
- Christingle Service – This is a moveable date. Please check on the Church Events page for the current details.
A Bible Study group is held at Brook Cottage, Harleston Road, Starston, every second Wednesday from 7.30 – 8.30, all are welcome.
A short morning service with prayers is held in the church every Thursday at 9.00 am for the village of Starston. Anyone is welcome to attend and bring special prayers if so desired.
The PCC holds various events throughout the year raising money towards the cost of maintenance of the fabric of the church. These events include the Annual Church Fete and Barbecue.
